Abstract

ABSTRACT A tractor-mounted mechanism was designed and built to mechanically insert small wire arches into the ground for purposes of supporting continuous plant pro-tecting row covers. The device used an air cylinder and specially designed jaws to grip and rapidly insert the arches. Field trials by hand feeding arches to the device indicated that the device could insert approximately one arch per second, which is at least four times faster than conventional hand placement.
