Abstract

Three new dammarane-type triterpenes, named arcapitin A, B and C, were isolated from the roots of Argyreia capitata (Convolvulaceae). They turned out to be 11α-acetoxydammar-24-ene-20(S)-ol-3-one, damm ar-24-ene-11a,20(S)-diol-3-one and 11a-acetoxydammar-24- ene-3β,20(S)-diol. While the same compounds were also detected in the aerial vegetative parts of this species, their occurrence in a number of other convolvulaceous species could not be confirmed.
