Abstract

An arbitrary polygon shape optimization method is proposed for multiband frequency selective surface (FSS) inverse design in this paper. Different from the traditional deterministic methods, our approach uses the relationship between lumped parameter of equivalent circuit model (ECM) and distribution parameter which can readily determine the search direction. Meanwhile, the iteration step size is determined by the normalized current density. Polygon representation of FSS element can improve the degree of freedom of structural optimization to a great extent compare with parameterized method. This approach has the ability to avoid the conflict of multi-objective optimization and optimize multiband FSS effectively and accurately. A dual-band FSS is taken as a case to verify the method. The simulation results of optimized structure meet the expectation and are basically coincident with measurement results, thus verifying the feasibility of the optimization method.
