Abstract

Solvay Solexis has expanded its low-EW PFSA ionomer portfolio with a new grade. AQUIVION{trade mark, serif} is a copolymer produced from C2F4 and the co-monomer C2F3-O-(CF2)2-SO2F and represents the long-term commitment of Solvay Solexis to the emerging PEFC industry. The very short and light side chain which carries the functional SO3H group incurs a number of advantageous factors. Customers such as MEA producers enjoy benefits from the short side chain when using the various AQUIVION{trade mark, serif} membrane and dispersion grades. Both membranes and dispersions are vital for the manufacturing for Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell (PEFC) stacks as well as other applications such as gas humidifiers and filtration devices. The paper describes the portfolio of enhanced technical and operational characteristics resulting from use of D79-20BS dispersion.
