I was concerned that aqueous cream was described as an emollient and soap substitute in the article ‘A guide to emollient therapy’ (art&science February 23). In view of recent findings (Cork et al 2003), which suggest a significant proportion of children with atopic eczema will develop cutaneous reactions following the use of aqueous cream as a leave-on emollient, the information could be misleading
