Abstract

A series of road accidents occur due to traction loss resulting in vehicle skid. The traction loss (or loss of adhesion) has many contributing factors, with one of the main ones being contact loss between tyre and road surface e.g. due to presence of water on the road. In extreme cases, especially when driving at a higher speed a total loss of contact occurs, also known as aquaplaning. The aim of the paper is to present the design of the aquaplaning-preventing device and verify its functionality using numerical simulation. The device works on the basis of blowing the air flow on wet road. Numerical simulations were performed with Star CCM+ software, using regular RANS approach.
