Abstract

Pearson type curves have been fitted to computed output distributions from photomultiplier tubes based on Prescott's model. It has been shown that the beta distribution, derived by using the moments of the exact distribution, is a good approximation to the exact distribution in all cases. The output distributions derived previously by Gale and Gibson have been fitted by the Pearson method and the beta distribution is found to be a better approximation than the gamma distribution then proposed.
