Abstract

The asymptotic behaviour of poles and residues in the nonlinear parameter of the exact soliton solutions of KdV, potential KdV, modified KdV and nonlinear Schrodinger equations is investigated. This technique allows one to determine the behaviour of the [n -1/n] rational approximations of Pade type to the previous solutions. It is found that in the asymptotic regime (t large positive) the approximate solutions reproduce the n leading solitons of the exact solution.
