Abstract

The two-dimensional formation of a crater in a metal by a laser pulse is studied by the frontal method. The problem is reduced to a set of transcendental equations for the evaporation constants and to an equation of the first order for the frontal surface. Calculations are made for Al, Cu, and Fe targets for laser energy flux densities from 106 to 108W/cm2.
