Abstract

A rational approximation technique is applied to the interpretation of the operational solution of an important problem arising in the design of an electrical delay line with continuously distributed parameters. The electrical system is essentially a resistor-capacitor ladder network smoothed out into a space-wise continuous distribution. Only the interpretation of the operational solution is considered in this paper. A description of the electrical problem and its operational solution will be given in a separate paper by D. Hazony. In the rational approximation technique great importance is attached to the ease with which the Pade table can be recursively computed by a method developed by the author.
