Abstract

Computing has been at the core of the Digital Revolution (also known as the Third Industrial Revolution) since the latter half of the 20th century. Progress on approximate computing has been promising for data storage and processing associated with recent advancements in artificial intelligence and big data. It is our great pleasure to introduce the guest editors of this special issue of <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">IEEE Nanotechnology Magazine</i> on approximate computing: Dr. Jie Han and Dr. Weiqiang Liu, who are experts in the field of high-performance computing, and Prof. Shao-Ku Kao, Chang Gung University, and Prof. Toshiya Sakata, University of Tokyo, serve as associate editors for this special issue. We hope the readers will greatly enjoy it.
