Abstract

Distance Education is regarded as the most significant educational innovation of this century. It is no coincidence that the growth in Distance Education has occurred at the same time when there has been rapid advancements in communications technology. The purpose of this paper is twofold: to articulate the relevance of Distance Education with special reference to developing countries, and to describe the approach adopted by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in providing technical assistance in the selection and use of media in small-scale Distance Education systems.
