Abstract
Instability into marriages and the resultant impact on family members are among the most pressing problems facing society today. The home has been described as the bedrock of the society. Unstable homes make for unstable society. Marital therapy grew out of a social need for practitioners to deal with marital problems. In this paper an attempt is made at theoretically surveying marriage enrichment approaches to marital therapy. In so doing efforts are geared towards highlighting the theory of transactional analysis and marital therapy, the concepts of life positions and marital therapy, the concepts of Rational - Emotive Therapy (RET) and marital conflict. Techniques of cognitive therapies in enhancing marital happiness are also highlighted. The Nigerian Journal of Guidance and Counselling Vol. 8 (1) 2002: pp. 61-85
