Abstract

The most important elements of John Stuart Mill’s semantics have been discussed extensively here, often from several vantage points. The method employed has been more or less ideengeschichtlich in character; the main lines of development have been made as clear as possible throughout. It would accordingly be superfluous to rechart the route travelled.
