Abstract

Some classical and recent homogenizing theories are discussed. The predicted effective moduli are compared with experimental results, for porous glass, and for glass containing alumina or tungsten reinforcements. Particular attention is given to the Mori–Tanaka approach, in view of its application to problems of current technological significance.
