Abstract

This study examines the application of work redesign strategies in Chinese government agencies to understand their contributions to the field of government reform. Work redesign strategies that improve the performance of government include redesigning jobs and positions, combining agency functions, merging units, and eliminating different layers of hierarchy. The study first provides a review of the background of Chinese government reforms and related issues about work redesign studies. The study then explains the research data and analytical techniques used to examine the importance and implementation measure of the four work redesign strategies, while also testing influential personal and organizational factors that impact the work redesign strategy. The study concludes with discussions about lessons derived from the Chinese government reform and implications for future studies on government reforms.
