Abstract

The demand for broadband access has grown steadily as users experience the convenience of high-speed response combined with "always-on" connectivity. In this paper, we propose a radio over fiber (RoF) based broadband wireless access network architecture. Characteristics of the architecture, advantages and benefits, and appLications of RoF technology are discussed. Moreover, a radio over fiber based wireless access network has been proposed as a promising alternative to wireless local area network due to its cost-effective network architecture.
