Abstract

This paper, based on the Russian theory of linguo-area study, aims to describe and translate Chinese date-selection terminology into bilingual dictionary entries. The source of information is mainly from different versions of Chinese almanacs. The results are to be categorized and put to use in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses as a reference material in the teaching of language and culture. As headwords of a dictionary, parameters are set for the entries described to provide a systematical way of information presentation. Finally, the author contends that the material should be further studied through a comparison with the ”good” and ”bad”days of the western farmers' almanac.
