Abstract

Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) is a peer-to-peer communication technique that enables users to communicate with other fixed network or mobile devices without the support of any fixed infrastructure. MANET is a multi-hop, self-configuring and autonomous network that can be rapidly deployed and uses intermediate mobile nodes as routers to transmit data between mobile devices. This paper presents a Quality of Service implementation for a 4-Node Intelligent Routing Algorithm (4-NIRA) by utilizing Internet Protocol v6 (IPv6). Incorporating node addressing can reduce the route discovery overhead and IPv6 provides addressing, quality and performance capability that enhance the operation of 4-NIRA. The proposed algorithm was simulated in using a real time MANET scenario developed using Opnet Modeler v16.1. Comparison with other MANET routing algorithms show that the proposed algorithm reduces end-to-end delay, improves throughput, packet delivery and overall bandwidth utilization.
