Abstract
The detection and prevention of criminal behaviour has always been a behavioural and informational processing task. It is not surprising therefore that forensic psychology in a broad sense has been utilised as a resource in this mission. However, such utilisation has a patchy history. The purpose of this paper is to conduct a personal review of those areas where the author has experience of psychology applied in forensic settings, assisting police work, or, alternatively where it has proved useful in showing that police detection work is flawed and misleading.
