Abstract

Photoelectrochemical technology is promising that links the photoelectrodes by means of external circuits to have higher photoelectric conversion efficiency and more applications. ZnIn2S4 (ZIS) is one of the developed photoactive materials that has been widely researched for its powerful visible response, manageable morphology, and abundant active sites. Nonetheless, the accumulated number of articles about ZIS straightly focus on the design of ZIS-based photocatalysts and photocatalytic applications. Therefore, it is necessary to provide a scientific review on the application of ZIS-based photoelectrodes. This article summarizes the various applications of ZIS-based photoelectrodes in the photoelectrochemical field like water splitting for hydrogen production, biosensing, photocathodic protection, photoelectrocatalytic degradation, and so on. Besides, we highlight the strategies concerning modification and signal amplification of ZIS-based photoelectrodes. Finally, the existing problems and development anticipations are discussed in order to promote their real applications.
