Abstract

Systems using ultrasonography have been used to diagnosis pregnancy and, in some cases, fetal numbers in small ruminants for 2 decades. Now, real-time B mode ultrasound systems are available that, if used correctly, can improve the accuracy of pregnancy diagnosis, fetal counts and fetal viability over previous ultrasound systems (A-mode). Using real-time, the diagnosis of pregnancy can be made as early as 25 days post breeding or near term. Real-time systems can help diagnose reproductive tract disease in both the female and male.
