Abstract

I want to welcome everyone to the ‘Applications of ultra-high pressure in biotechnology: a symposium’. On behalf of Harvard Catalyst, we are delighted to be a co-host for this symposium with Pressure BioSciences Inc. I am Winston Kuo, Director of Harvard Catalyst Laboratory for Innovative Translational Technologies (HC-LITT). Our laboratory provides the Harvard research community with early access to leading-edge genomic and proteomic technologies. I would also like to introduce to you the other co-hosts of the symposium: Dr Vincent Ricchuiti, Director of Harvard Catalyst Central Laboratories (HCCL) and Dr Alexander Ivanov, Director of the Harvard School of Public Health Proteomics Resource (HPR). You will hear more about the resources they offer during the opening remarks of the sessions they will be chairing. Today you will hear a diversity of talks on the applications of using cycled ultra-high hydrostatic pressure technology, topics that range from forensics to sample preservation.
