Abstract

Applications of Terfenol-D in China are reviewed. Cylindrical, compound-bar, flextensional transducers for underwater acoustics, dipole transducers for acoustic oil-well logging, controllers and actuators are described in this paper. In addition, this paper presents the fundamentals of design for Terfenol-D transducer, such as measurement of electromechanical coupling coefficient k 33, estimation of prestress and calculation of resonant frequency, etc. But even getting some solutions for these problems, we still require further work to pay more attention to the applications of Terfenol-D.
