Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To describe different types of pharmacoeconomic analyses that can be useful for evaluating drug products and managed care pharmacy services. This article addresses issues to be considered for a pharmacoeconomic study of pharmaceutical care and how to critically analyze the pharmacoeconomic literature. DATA SOURCES: Literature and Internet references, ongoing studies. DATA SYNTHESIS: Not Applicable. CONCLUSION: Pharmacoeconomics is changing the practice of managed care pharmacy. Pharmacists' economics literature as part of their professional services. In addition, pharmacists should document their pharmaceutical care interventions and the effects on patient outcomes.
