Abstract

Although plant metabolomics is still in the development stage, it is developing rapidly. Current international working is on the large-scale metabolomics data accumulation, namely the use of a variety of chemical analytical platforms, especially mass-based GC-MS and LC-MS in plant (mostly concentrate on the model plant Arabidopsis, including different mutants, ecotypes, tissues, and treatments with different conditions) metabolomics analysis. The international plant metabolomics society established a set of standardized procedures on different plant metabolomics analytical tools, including experimental design, data processing, and reporting, and making the metabolomics data sharing between different laboratories is possible (Feighn in Metabolomics 3:175–178, 2007), which will greatly improve the role of metabolomics in plant research. Plant metabolomics also evolved from simple metabolic analysis to systematically reveal the mechanism of plant cell by combining with other omics techniques.
