Abstract

Due to the rapid development in the field of computer science, the computational power has increased exponentially. Computers these days have become convenient tools for all industries, including car manufacturing industry. Car manufacturers use computers to simulate the conditions under which car components are working in order to see the performance. Large Eddy Simulation (LES) is a kind of computational fluid dynamic method to examine the states and morphologies of fluid like fuels within different car components. LES has been extensively used in predicting the internal flow of the internal combustion engines. This paper summarizes the related applications of the improved version of LES, error predicting scheme for LES and the effectiveness of similar simulating method in the performance prediction of engines. The mechanisms, advantages, drawbacks, improvement, and application of LES and related methodologies are concluded, providing a helpful summarization for other researchers who want to obtain a general knowledge on LES and wish to contribute on fluid simulation.
