Abstract

Based on theoretical approaches, one model for encouraging knowledge-sharing behaviour of blog students is presented in education. Our empirical study examined the influence of a knowledge-sharing blog on learning outcomes and learner satisfaction in e-learning environments. Three different settings were studied: two were e-learning environments – one with a knowledge-sharing blog and another without a knowledge-sharing blog. The third was a traditional classroom environment. Results of the experiment showed that the value of sharing motivation for learning effectiveness was contingent upon the provision of knowledge sharing. Students in the e-learning environment that provided information in the knowledge-sharing blog achieved a significantly better learning performance and a higher level of learner satisfaction than those in the other settings. Further, those students in other e-learning environment without the knowledge-sharing blog did not improve. The findings suggest that it may be valuable to integrate a knowledge-sharing blog into an e-learning system.
