Abstract

Application of fracture mechanics to mining engineering problems such as rock fragmentation by blasting and cutting, rock slope stability analysis, underground coal mine dust control, study of geological fracture set formation and underground opening design is summarized. Because rock is a special material having fractures and flaws, the fracture mechanics approach may be more suitable for solving practical problems in a rock mass. Study of this approach in the design of rock structures is of great importance in order to benefit the mining industry.
