Abstract

Due to their excellent resistance against solid particle attack, elastomers are widely being used in slurry transport as wear-resistant materials for components such as slurry pipe liner and slurry pump liner. However, there is limited knowledge on how to properly use elastomers in slurry transport. In this study, the wear mechanisms and wear resistance of two types of widely used elastomers (neoprene and polyurethane) are studied using several test methods, including single point scratch, Coriolis slurry scouring erosion, slurry jet erosion and centrifugal slurry impact erosion. Then, suitable applications of elastomers in slurry transport are discussed. Some examples of the applications of elastomers in slurry transport are also presented.
