Abstract

Complementary tri-stimulus colorimetry can be applied to the analysis of binary and ternary colorant mixtures. It is shown that for this purpose relation to the human eye is unnecessary, and that only the designation of the various parameters and the mode of calculation need be retained. The binary system of the EDTA complexes of copper and nickel and the ternary system of the EDTA complexes of copper, nickel, and cobalt are treated in detail as illustrative examples of the new approach. Results can be calculated graphically, in a purely algebraic manner, or in a combined graphical and algebraic manner. The relation of the new approach to classical photometric analysis of multicomponent systems is shown.
