Abstract

The mining industry generates a lot of wastewater from its processes. This wastewater must be treated economically and in a sustainable and economic manner for possible reuse. Technologies such as bio adsorption are being applied as low cost technology for gold wastewater processing. This paper reviews the potential to treat gold wastewater using bio adsorbents. The efficiency of the wastewater treatment is dependent on the quality of wastewater, the characteristics of the bio adsorbent used and the process conditions. Efficiencies as high as 70-99% have been reported when bio char was used a gold tailings wastewater treatment method.
