Abstract

Objective To investigate the value of carotid artery severe stenosis before and after endovascular stenting by the combined result of transcranail doppler (TCD) and color doppler flow imaging (CDFI).Methods Thirty-eight cases of carotid artery severe stenosis were investigated before and after stent treatment 2 to 12 months. The dameter of vessels, percent of stenosis, index of hemodynamics in intra-extracranial artery were recorded and compared before and after artery stent respectively. Results Diameter of carotid artery was increased from (1.4 ± 0.6) mm to (4.3 ± 0.5)mm ;the percent of vasculalr stenosis was reduced significantly.Angiography and CDFI,showed the percent from (78.9±11.6)% to (21.0±10.1)%,(74.2±11.1)% to (26.5±17.0)% respectivelly. The results which were examined by TCD and CDFI were consistent with the results by digital subtraction angiography (DSA).Conclusions TCD combined with CDFI can improve the accuracy of the diagnosis about carotid artery severe stenosis and it become a very important method for assessing and following up curative effect of carotid artery stent. Key words: Carotid artery angioplasty; Stent; Transcranial doppler; Color doppler flow imaging
