Application potential of silicone hydrogel contact lenses used as a bandage

Abstract

In addition to the correction of refractive errors,contact lenses can also be used as a bandage in the treatment of ocular surface diseases.In most cases,extended-wear bandage lenses can achieve better therapeutic results.Traditional hydrogel lenses may lead to corneal hypoxia due to a lack of oxygen so it is more desirable to choose the silicone hydrogel lens as a bandage based on its higher oxygen permeability.Knowledge about the application of silicone hydrogel lenses as bandage lenses in the treatment of corneal diseases after corneal refractive surgery,as well as its role in drug delivery, can be useful in the development of personalized treatment programs that include the bandage lens as an option.
