Abstract

The current chapter discusses the application potential of a multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) method in fuzzy environment. The hybridization of a MCMD-based method namely TOPSIS with Fuzzy set theory, has been proposed for solving a broad variety of problems associated with research and academic community. The concept of Multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) has been extensively adapted by several analysts in distinctive range of study. The amalgamation of MCDM with fuzzy interface has driven to an advanced decision theory called fuzzy multi-criteria decision making (FMCDM). For instance, amongst the most multifarious MCDM procedures, the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) is added to fuzzy logic conditions, explicitly termed as Fuzzy TOPSIS. This method has been flourishingly exercised in various practical and realistic challenging areas like health care, business and manufacturing etc. This chapter highlights the utilization potential of Fuzzy embedded TOPSIS approach in clarifying different MCDM-based obstacles correlated witha real time manufacturing system and other relevant sectors as well. A case study consisting of experimental data sets has been described for better understanding of the suggested methodology. Outcomes of the investigation revealed that, the hybridization of TOPSIS and Fuzzy set theory helped remarkably in realizing the preeminent solution.
