Abstract

Objective To evaluate the value of X-ray monitoring in the cervical epidural space puncture and catheterization. Methods Sixty patients with cervical intervertebral disc herniation were randomly divided into two groups, the image monitoring puncture group (group A) and the blind puncture group by traditional experience (group B) , thirty cases in each group. Patients in group A were punctured and catheterized in the cervical epidural space under the X-ray monitoring; while patients in group B were performed by blind puncture of traditional experience. The puncture time, times, and adverse events were observed in the two groups. Results Compared with group B, the puncture success ratio was significantly increased (100% vs 90%) ; the time of puncture were shortened〔 (8±7) vs (16±10) min〕; the puncture times were reduced〔 (2.1±0.9) vs (4.3±0.6) times〕; the ratio of adverse events was decreased (10.0% vs 36.7%) (P<0.05) . Conclusion The puncture of cervical epidural space under X-ray monitoring can improve the success ratio, reduce the times and time of puncture, and lower the adverse events.
