Abstract
ABSTRACT The uniform formulation of analysis and synthesis problems for forced harmonic vibration and eigenproblems of viscoelastic structures are discussed in this paper. The basic variational principles in complex variable formulations are presented for structures that are made of an arbitrary linear viscoelastic material. These principles constitute a foundation for approximate analysis and can be used in formulating the synthesis problem.
