Abstract

Background and Aim: In thepast two decades,numerous studies using ultrasonographicimagingandindicatorssuch asthebladderorurethramobility were conducted to assess thepelvic floorstructure and morphology, alsoto diagnosedisorders likeurinary incontinenceas well as prolapsed and their severities. Regarding the Rehabilitative UltrasoundImaging (RUSI) andtheimportance of studyingpelvic floormuscle function for physiotherapists, thisarticleaimed to review practical aspects of two common ultrasonographic imaging methods for assessment of pelvic floor muscles’ function. Conclusion : Trans-abdominal andTrans-labial have been introduced astwo commonultrasonographicmethodstoevaluatepelvic floor musclefunction. However,Trans-labial method is more sensitive withlessmeasurement error.Noneed togetdressed, quickimaging andviewingthepatient'sbladderareconsidered as advantagesofTrans-abodominal approach.
