Abstract

Energy levels of 21Ne are calculated by projecting states of good angular momentum from low-lying Hartree-Fock configurations. With the Kuo effective interaction and an E2 effective charge of 0.4 e the normal-parity spectrum and the decay scheme are in fairly good agreement with experiment, although some of the calculated lifetimes appear to be too short. The model gives no even-parity state which can be identified with the 2.791 MeV level, and it is shown that its lifetime and decay characteristics are consistent with it being an odd-parity state having a hole in the 1p shell.
