Abstract

Faced with the social high demand for students’ English listening and speaking ability and the present unsatisfying situation of college English listening and speaking teaching, we propose a new teaching model of college English listening and speaking–multimodal teaching model based on the multimodal discourse analysis theory. The results of the experiment show that the multimodal teaching model does better than the traditional one in the following three aspects: 1) promoting students’ intrinsic motivation for English learning; 2) improving students’ practical ability to use English; 3) strengthening students’ autonomous English learning ability. Besides, the newly-designed multimodal teaching model is more popular among students than the traditional one.
