Abstract
The method of variational imbedding has been adopted for solving the descriptive set of equations governing the transport of pollutants in the atmosphere for two types of dispersion models: 1. (i) Unsteady diffusion transport 2. (ii) steady-state two-dimensional convection-diffusion transport. The diffusivity coefficient K and down-wind speed U have both been taken to have general functional dependence on local pollutant concentration c. The solutions obtained in this paper can be used for theoretical prediction of pollutant concentration across the contaminated atmospheric layer adjacent to the ground level area sources.
