Abstract

Objective To investigate the results of the damage control surgery (DCS) for chil-dren with critical and severe gastrointestinal surgical diseases. Methods Thirty-one cases were retro-spectively analyzed, who underwent DCS. Fifteen patients who underwent traditional operations were selected as the control group. Pre-operative children severity score (CSS), and postoperative body tem-perature (T), blood pH in arterial blood gas (PH), prothrombin time (PT) and curative rate were compared between these two groups. Results There was no statistical significance in CSS between 2 groups (P>0. 05). Significant difference was noted in postoperative pH and PT between 2 groups (P 0. 05), however, the tendency of temperature recovery in DCS group was milder. The curative rate of DCS group is signifi-cantly higher than that of the control group. Conclusions Better therapeutic effect can be gained from DCS in treating patients with critical and severe gastrointestinal surgical diseases.
