Abstract

A hollow slab bridge located on a highway in Yunnan Province, China, was rated as the IV type of bridge in the evaluation and testing of its technical condition. After comparing the reinforcement and reconstruction schemes, it is decided to demolish and rebuild the bridge. The new bridge is designed as a 30m simply supported T-beam. The Grillage method of MIDAS/Civil finite element software is used to design and calculate the superstructure of the bridge. On the basis of the Grillage method, the whole model is established and the seismic checking calculation is carried out. The results show that the design of the bearing capacity limit state and the normal service limit state of the superstructure, as well as the seismic checking calculation of the bridge, all meet the requirements of the code; T-beam design is calculated by Grillage method, which makes the modeling and post-processing more intuitive, and provides more convenience for the later seismic checking calculation. The Grillage method is very suitable for the design of T-beam bridge.
