Abstract

In this study, abrasive wear properties of functionally graded aluminum based composites have been studied by Taguchi’ approach. Using in-situ technique, various types of composites were produced under the same conditions in order to see the effects of the characteristic properties on the abrasive wear behavior of composites.Abrasive wear test results of composites have been examined by using L16 (2344) orthogonal design, considering seven factors, reinforcement type, regional variation, matrix type, abrasive particle size, applied load, sliding speed and sliding distance, according to Taguchi method. The results showed that the volumetric loss increases with increasing abrasive particle size, applied load, sliding speed and distance, and moreover TiB2 particles are more effective than Al3Ti flakes to decrease wear loss.
