Abstract

The paper aims at the speed controller design for a separately excited DC motor using the novel technique of Sliding Mode Control (SMC), which guarantees the robust performance of the speed controller under disturbances. The control system for the speed control is first designed and applied to the physical model in MATLAB SIMULINK. The results of the proposed controller are then compared with the conventional proportional integral (PI) controller. The results clearly reflect the dominance of the SMC over PI controller.
