Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of situational teaching on improvement of technical operation level in nurse students.Methods Oral care was taken as an example.100 nurse students were randomly divided into study group and control group,50 for each group.The control group received traditional teaching methods,while the study group received situational teaching,in which the students learned to how to perform oral care for the patients with different clinical conditions and\or different educational levels.Four weeks after practice in hospital,tests for technical operation and survey with questionnaires were conducted to compare the.teaching effectiveness.Results The grade of professional theory test was higher in the study group than in the control group,but without a significant difference( t=1.66,P> 0.05 );the grade of practical operation was significantly higher in the study group than in the control group,with a significant difference ( t =5.03, P < 0.01 ).Nurse students considered situational teaching was superior to traditional methods,making them easier to master the practical skills.Conclusions Situational teaching can improve nurse students' interest in professional learning,strenghen the understanding and memory for of knowledge,enhance communication skills,and shorten the distance between theory and clinical practice.
