Abstract

Servo presses offer flexible slide motion and precise control, along with other major advantages over the traditional mechanical presses. In this paper, general features and the newest technologies of the servo presses are introduced with examples of actual applications to sheet metal forming and cold forging. Focusing on the flexible slide motion and variable die cushion load, the merits of servo presses, such as reduction of processing stations needed, improvement of die life, and reduction of energy consumption, are discussed. Integration of servo presses with internet-of-things (IoT) technology is also discussed as a way to monitor machine conditions and predict future maintenance needs.
