Abstract

Objective To explore the application of semi-sterile technique for closed reduction and percutaneous fixation of supracondylar humeral fractures in children. Methods A total of 638 children of Gartland type Ⅱ/Ⅲ/Ⅳ and flexion type supracondylar humeral fractures were analyzed from January 2013 to December 2017. All cases underwent closed reduction and percutaneous fixation under a semi-sterile condition. And operative duration, clinical & radiological outcomes and postoperative complications were analyzed. Results Only 9 patients (1.4%) developed superficial pin tract infections and were cured after local dressing changes. There were loss of reduction (n=7, 1%), cubitus varus (n=3, 0.5%) and nerve injury (n=2, 0.3%). The clinical outcomes were excellent (n=561, 88%), decent (n=51, 8%) and fair (n=26, 4%). Conclusions The above simple semi-sterile technique shortens operative duration and lowers operative costs. And it is easy to manage.
