Abstract

This paper deals with new application of selfrecovering micro fuse (SRF) as a disaster prevention device to stop supplying electric power when not only over-current flowed thorough it, but also mechanical impact or vibration that caused by a clash, drop or large earthquake was applied. In order to verify the possible application, we experimentally investigated the relationship between the impact acceleration and the ON to OFF state transition of the SRF device by taking into the magnitude of applied impact and the nature of insulation liquid matrix consideration. As a result, we have verified that the SRF device can be basically used as a disaster prevention device operated by mechanical impact, i.e. OFF state transition of the SRF device occurs by mechanical impact.
