Abstract

ABSTRACT Due to the shallow buried depth of shallow coal seam, it is easy to produce cracks through the surface during the mining process, which leads to the occurrence of fire accidents in shallow coal seam. In this paper, a rapid identification method for shallow coal seam fire area is proposed to improve the accuracy and efficiency of radon measurement by increasing the number of single gas extraction and single detection range in radon measurement process. The new method was applied in a mine in Shaanxi, China, and the location and range of the fire area were successfully delineated according to the abnormal value of radon gas. The results show that the new method can reduce the number of measuring points, improve the efficiency of radon measurement, and expand the range of single measuring point to a circular area with a radius of 10 m, which expands the detection range. This provides an important reference for the rapid identification of fire areas in shallow coal seams and the next coal mine fire prevention and extinguishing work.
